Beat Bullying | Hypnotherapy Brighton, Hove & Lewes

Bullying is usually defined as repeated behaviour that is intended to physically or emotionally, hurt someone.

Bullying can take many forms including:

  • Subtle, underhand comments, looks or actions that others might not necessarliy perceive
  • Teasing or name calling
  • Threats and intimidation
  • Physical assault
  • Making silent or abusive phone calls
  • Sending offensive texts
  • posting insulting messages or rumours (in person on the internet)
  • making things up to get you into trouble
  • taking things away from you
  • damaging your belongings
  • stealing money
  • taking friends away from you
  • Bullying can happen almost anywhere but it is common at school, within the workplace, in social circles
  • Cyberbullying (using the net).

Being bullied can trigger Anxiety about seeing particular people and being in certain situations or places. It can cause a considerable loss of personal power, affecting your sense of Self Esteem, and Confidence, often to the point where people do not wish to return to school, work or where ever the bully might be.

If you're being bullied you probably have some of the following qualities. You may be a bit of a perfectionist, and be quite competent at what you do, which stimulates envy. You're probably loyal and dependable with a slowness to anger often internalising anger rather than express it. Perhaps you have a tendency to self-deprecation, indecisiveness, approval seeking and a need to feel valued. It's common that people who are being bullied are quick to apologise when accused, even if not guilty.

Bullies need your help! They cannot continue doing what they are doing without some kind of compliance from you. They need you to not stand up to them, to not talk to anyone else about whats going on. They need you to feel like it's your fault and that you don't have the power to overcome them. Bullies are actually a lot more vulnerable than they seem.

Usually the behaviour of a bully is a projection of their own weaknesses, shortcomings, failings and incompetence onto their victim.

By learning how to be more Assertive, acknowledging and standing up for you rights as an individual, you can find the power needed to overcome this. Also it is useful to keep a written record of everything. It's not each incident that counts, but the number, regularity and especially the patterns of behaviour that reveal the bullying. A bully may explain isolated incidents but cannot explain away the pattern. The pattern reveals the intent.
