Anorexia

If you have been suffering from anorexia then you will probably have experienced one or more of the following symptoms:

  • An intense fear of gaining weight
  • A distorted body image
  • Absence of 3 or more menstrual cycles
  • Obsessive thoughts
  • Hiding or storing food
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

Anorexia is tough.

If you experience this you may find a strong sense of rules you feel you need to live by, and perhaps perfectionist tendencies.

Often Anorexia comes side by side with ritualistic behaviours, yet a reducing food intake seems rational response to alleviate the anxiety of being overweight.

This diminishes the ability to observe the dangers inherent in the behaviours and can lead to malnourishment.

Malnourishment causes the body to use up its reserves of energy and starts to use the fats out of the organs. As a result of malnourishment depression can often set in but this can sometimes be abated by a balanced food intake.

Other medical ailments are:

  • Diminished Oestrogen in girls, and Testosterone in boys
  • Pale complexion and dry skin
  • Lack of concentration
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Thinning hair
  • Cramps
  • Fatigue
  • Swollen salivary glands
  • Kidney Failure
  • Bone marrow decrease
  • Chronic renal failure
  • Constipation
  • Diminished libido

You may have experienced statutory help for this before, which can seem quite strict and punishing. Alternatively despite wanting help you might have found that there isn't really a service who will support you.

I won't push you further than you're willing to go.

I aim to gently help to acknowledge that Anorexia really isn't a food problem or a weight problem, but a solution to deal with anxiety. Unfortunately this particular solution doesn't make anxiety go away, unless in the very short term. In the longer term it just makes anxiety worse.

Hypnotherapy can be an excellent treatment for the various conditions that encompass anorexia including Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, fears and self esteem.

Hypnotherapy for Bulimia

Bulimia is characterized with compulsion to overeat often followed by the desire to remove the food which can be underpinned by a fixation on controlling body weight, size and shape.

The means for controlling these factors usually include one or more of the following:

  • laxatives
  • fasting
  • diuretics
  • vomiting
  • enemas
  • excessively exercising

People often have a relationship with their Bulimia, thinking that it helps in some way. However this is a destructive relationship, and transforming the nature of this relationship can cause a profound change in the response to engage in Bulimic behaviour.

Like Anorexia, Bullimia isn't really a food or weight problem, but a solution to deal with anxiety. Unfortunately, in the longer term it just makes anxiety worse.

The problems that can be associated with Bulimia, like so many problems, are an attempt to find a solution to a certain issue that has perhaps taken on a life of its own and is running things a bit too often.

While there is a strong mental and emotional aspect to Bulimia, the physical damage it can cause may be a motivating factor for some to seek support to overcome it.

Medical consequences can include:

  • Immature Ovary development
  • Abnormal menstrual cycle
  • Heart conditions
  • Teeth corrosion
  • Seizures
  • Bloating
  • Ingestion of vomit into the lungs possibly causing infection

Hypnotherapy can be successfully used to increase relaxation, find freedom from guilt, create healthy habits, enhance self esteem and manage triggers to create new responses and behaviour patterns.
