Anorexia

Anorexia is tough.

It seems tough to experience, and if I am going to be honest, it is often tough to work with.

While many people express that they no longer want to be a slave to this condition, it is common to find that rigid, anxiety laden, beliefs keep holding them back from making the desired changes.

All too often, a change in one area fuels a compensatory change in another. For example beginning to eat a small breakfast might be followed by an excessive exercise routine, or renouncing a customary snack later in the day.

Most people may consider the person suffering to be under-weight, yet the belief regarding being fat or getting fat often displaces any regard for the social norms regarding healthy weight/ body shape.

Calorie counting, restriction, frequent weighing, the goal of losing or maintaining the lowest weight possible may become obsessive, underpinned often by perfectionist tendencies.

My treatment plan will often involve exposure work. This will mean refraining to engage in behaviours and facing the distress caused by this in an effort to learn how to tolerate the difficulty rather than promoting unhelpful (and often dangerous) beliefs. This is supported by work on distress tolerance to deal with the difficult feelings that may arise.

If it is very early onset, or you have managed to overcome anorexia in the past and had a recent lapse then I may be able to help fairly swiftly.

However, if you have been suffering from anorexia for a long time, then it is likely to take time.

I will only consider clients with longer-term eating disorders who are willing to engage in a regular, longer contract period, and open to potential liaison work with other services who may have been involved.

Hypnotherapy for Bulimia

Bulimia is characterized with compulsion to overeat often followed by the desire to remove the food which can be underpinned by a fixation on controlling body weight, size and shape.

The means for controlling these factors usually include one or more of the following:

• laxatives
• fasting
• diuretics
• vomiting
• enemas
• excessively exercising

People often have a relationship with their Bulimia, thinking that it helps in some way. However this is a destructive relationship, and transforming the nature of this relationship can cause a profound change in the response to engage in Bulimic behaviour.
Like Anorexia, Bullimia I believe that ultimately isn't really a food or weight problem, but a solution to deal with anxiety. Unfortunately, in the longer term it just makes anxiety worse.

The problems that can be associated with Bulimia, like so many problems, are an attempt to find a solution to a certain issue that has perhaps taken on a life of its own and is running things a bit too often.

While there is a strong mental and emotional aspect to Bulimia, the physical damage it can cause may be a motivating factor for some to seek support to overcome it.

Medical consequences can include:

• Immature Ovary development
• Abnormal menstrual cycle
• Heart conditions
• Teeth corrosion
• Seizures
• Bloating
• Ingestion of vomit into the lungs possibly causing infection

Please Note: It is unlikely to be short-term work with people suffering from a longer-term condition of bulimia.

Only consider coming to work with me on this issue if you are willing to engage in a regular, longer contract period.

You should also be aware that my treatment plan will often involve exposure work. This will mean refraining to engage in behaviours and facing the distress caused by this in an effort to learn how to tolerate the difficulty rather than promoting unhelpful (and often dangerous) beliefs.

Hypnosis to Naturally Stop Binge Eating

A binge response may be triggered quite quickly by a number of uncomfortable feelings such as stress, grief or anger. Other times it may occur following certain circumstances, thoughts and associations.

After a binge, guilt, self-loathing and disgust will be a common factor. This only reduces confidence and increases the likelihood of the next binge!

If you would like support to stop bingeing, give me a call on 07949 989986 or email info@possie.co.uk
